To celebrate the Fourth of July we headed to Gunnison on Friday the 3rd. We started things off with a bang with the men BBQing Grant's famous marinated turkey. Naturally, we ate outside as we spent most of our time at the house outdoors and in the shade. This is the perfect setting for the deep questions that we like to sit and talk about for hours... "which celebs are aging well, if you could have five homes all over the world where would they be, if you had 88 million what would you spend it on", and then of course we also played 20 questions and "I'm going on a trip". Ashton took the trophy on that one.

That night we all made our way to the high school to watch the firework show after taking a walk through of Fred's almost-finished house.

The morning of the Fourth we lined up on Main Street to enjoy the parade. This year I took full advantage of the fact that I didn't have to hover over my children since they are old enough (or too young) to collect their own candy without assistance. The kids loved seeing a fourth of July reindeer and they each walked away with a bag full of candy to last a year.

We then joined the carnival at the park. This is always as much fun for the adults as it is for the kids. While the children go on rides, win fish, and get their faces painted, Mom and Dad talk to people that they only see once in a while. In this case, Matt ran into some friends he hasn't seen in ages.

John then took us boating, which I have posted in a different blog, and we finished out the night with our own little firework show. Mark put on quite a show full of amazing fireworks and his own made up dance moves to go along with the names of each firework. Sunday was a day to chill and recoup- that is, until we played Scum, bringing out our competitive sides. It was the perfect way to celebrate our freedom!
